Side-by-side view of the trifold brochure redesign for the NLACRC Common Services series for adults age 22 and over. The original twofold shows long paragraphs, complex wording, and crowded panels with limited hierarchy. The redesigned version features simplified and clearer language, larger headings, more white space, reordered content sections, and updated graphics to improve readability and usability across the brochure series. The redesign highlights clearer service categories, easy-to-find contact information, and a more accessible overall structure.

Challenge

NLACRC serves thousands of individuals with developmental disabilities and their families—many navigating complex services and systems.

Staff across departments were responsible for producing letters, reports, notices, and service explanations, but communication quality varied, and families often needed clarification.

NLACRC needed training and tools to help staff write clearly, consistently, and compassionately.

What we did

Plainlii delivered a multi-week training and consulting program:

  • Five custom training courses for specific staff cohorts
  • Hands-on writing and editing exercises using real NLACRC documents
  • Full content audit to identify clarity, structure, and accessibility needs
  • Guided document revisions to model best practices
  • Collaborative co-design strategies to incorporate feedback from real readers
  • Consultation on tools and workflows to improve quality assurance
Impact
  • Staff gained confidence writing clear, accessible, and family-centered documents.
  • Departments adopted consistent structures, tone, and formatting
  • Revised materials reduced confusion and improved service experiences.
  • Supervisors reported more effective internal communication and easier review cycles.
